Employment Listing Patient Access Financial Couselor Hours: TBD
Provides face-to-face financial counseling for patients, notably uninsured/under-insured patients. Requires staying current in various county, state, federal, and local program regulations and requirements as well as providing explanation of these programs to patients for which they may qualify. Must be able to work on your own, including the ability to seek out knowledge regarding assistance programs and/or financial aid, understand regulatory compliance, and insurance requirements. Determines patient responsibility amounts and communicates deposit requirements to patients seeking routine or elective services. Performs follow-up work on uninsured/under-insured patients to resolve their financial responsibility. Communicates with staff and/or providers as needed regarding patients’ financial status for routine or elective services ordered. Requires documentation on patients’ accounts within hospital and/or clinic electronic system. Assists patients with their billing questions. Understands and utilizes the different forms and/or letters used by the facility for hospital services provided. Participates as a team member and is accountable for own work responsibilities. May require some travel with personal vehicle. Reports to the Patient Access Manager. Two years office experience in a medical setting required, proficient in work processing and spreadsheets. Personal job-related skills: Word processing/Excel computer skills, operation of adding machine/calculator. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Familiar with operating computers and knowledge of general clerical duties. Good customer service skills. Knowledge in insurance terminology and verification of coverage. Attention to detail.
