For individuals ages 55 and older, the Special Care Clinic offers a Geriatric Program that is designed to meet the unique needs associated with aging. Our intensive outpatient day program assists senior adults who may be experiencing a wide range of emotions or symptoms such as:
- Medication compliance
- Grief or loss
- Loss of appetite
The Senior Care Program offers group and individual counseling. Our group counseling is tailored to fit both individual and group needs. The significance of group counseling is that participants gain an understanding that they are not alone, and that others have experienced similar types of problems. This realization alone is a validating discovery that raises self-esteem and helps the client feel more open to intervention and healing.
Group and individual therapy is offered Monday through Friday. Our group therapy program is designed for participants to attend three groups per day. Below is a short description and schedule to show how the program works.
9:30AM-10:00AM: Clients begin to arrive at the clinic and may have individual sessions with their counselor during this time.
10:00AM-10:50AM: Group One. Every group is lead by a Licensed Professional Counselor and facilitates discussions that are relevant to the needs of our clients, such as depression, loneliness, grief, transition issues, separation issues, utilization of coping skills, etc.
10:50AM-11:10AM: Clients are offered a break and a snack provided by the hospital.
11:10AM-12:00PM: Group Two.
12:00PM-12:45PM: Clients are offered a break and a lunch provided by the hospital.
12:45PM-1:35PM: Group Three.
Medication management is provided and supervised by our Medical Director who is a Board Certified Psychiatrist. Our psychiatrist will work with you and your primary physician to ensure healing in all areas of life, including physical, emotional, and spiritual.
