Job Summary
Prepares nutritional food for hospital patients, employees and visitors. Suggests menu items and assists in the requisition of food and supplies. Operates and maintains kitchen equipment. OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Class III.
Job Qualifications
- Education: High school graduate or equivalent preferred
- Personal job-related skills: Ability to read and write
- Licensure, registry or certification: None required
- Prior Work Experience: One year of previous institutional food preparation experience preferred
- Technical Training: None required
- Physical and Mental Requirements: Duties of position require extended periods of walking and standing. Some bending, stooping and reaching for food items and equipment. Pushing and pulling of food carts and lifting up to 50 pounds. The ability to comprehend and follow written or verbal instructions and directions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepares, seasons and cooks’ food for patients, employees and visitors
- Reviews menus to determine types and quantities of food to be prepared.
- Plans cooking schedule so that food will be ready at specified times.
- Prepares food as stipulated in standardized recipes.
- Prepares food for patients on therapeutic diets.
- Prepares food for meetings and special functions of the hospital.
- Recommends menu items and food to be purchased.
- Assures physician’s orders concerning patient diets are followed
- Operates and maintains kitchen equipment.
- Operates stove, ovens (Combi and Rapid cook), and all other kitchen appliances and equipment.
- Cleans cooking equipment and maintains high sanitary standards in kitchen.
- Advises department manager of equipment requirements and needed maintenance.
- Operates Toast (POS system) and STELLA (Room Service system).
- Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen and cafeteria.
- Washes pots, pans, dishes, and utensils.
- Assists the host/hostess in cleaning kitchen cooking equipment.
- Assists with sweeping, mopping, and overall cleaning of the kitchen and Cafeteria.
- Disposes of garbage and trash.
- Takes soiled linens to soiled linen closet.
Other Significant Requirements
- Maintains confidentiality while working with confidential matters on a daily basis
- Follows safety guidelines and policies for the healthcare system.
- Assists with putting away groceries.
- Ensures correct temperatures of hot foods 165/ and cold food is cold 41.
- Make sure that foods are placed on cart no earlier that 5-7 minutes prior to leaving
Kitchen. - Records and monitors food temperatures daily.
- Follows provided recipes.
- Uses garnishing for appearance and presentation of food.
- Ensures quality of food according to patient’s therapeutic diets.
- Responsible for daily cleaning.
- Follows safety guidelines and policies for the healthcare system.
- Adheres to Hamilton Healthcare System’s Behavioral Standards.
- Emulates the customer service expectations for Accountability, Respect, Integrity, Services, and Excellence.
- Maintains HIPAA compliance at all times.
- Abides by the Hamilton Healthcare System Personnel Policy and Employee Handbook.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
