Job Summary
Assists the professional nursing staff in providing maximum patient care, assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of each assigned patient. Under supervision gives direct and indirect patient care as assigned. OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Class I.
Job Qualifications
- Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Vocational Nursing.
- Personal job-related skills: Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Licensure, registry or certification: Licensed Vocational Nurse currently licensed by the State of Texas. BCLS and ACLS preferred.
- Prior Work Experience: One year of Licensed Vocational Nursing preferred.
- Technical Training: Current CPR training.
- Physical and Mental Requirements: Duties of the position require extended periods of standing and walking. Bending, stooping, twisting, reaching and lifting up to 50 pounds. Occasional heavy lifting when moving or supporting patients who may suddenly become weak or helpless.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Effectively performs and assists with delegated procedures
- Records observations and evaluations of patient response in medical record
- Safely assists patients to and from the waiting room for appointment.
- Prepares patients for exams and procedures by obtaining blood pressure, weight, height and subjective information related to patient’s health.
- Assists with surgical procedures performed in the clinic or hospital.
- Administers drugs or medications by protocol, either orally or by injection with provider order. Documents orders in patient medical record.
- Obtains and performs waive testing on blood and urine specimens
- Accepts and documents verbal orders from the provider.
- Refills prescription requests per physician request
- Serves as a liaison between patient/family and provider by collecting data and sharing information in a clear and concise manner..
- Ensures that inventory for supplies and equipment is appropriate.
Exam rooms are stocked and checked for cleanliness. - Maintains minimum formulary levels and performs monthly internal inventory.
- Monitors sample inventory and disposes of expired samples.
- Follows Standard Precautions for Infection Control
- Maintains CE for licensure
- Maintains CPR certification
Other Significant Requirements
- Maintains confidentiality while working with confidential matters on a daily basis.
- Provides service direct to patients while maintaining a positive patient relations atmosphere.
- Interacts with patients, family members and Medical Staff members on a continuous basis.
- Follows aseptic procedures and precautions when involved in direct patient contact or handing potentially infectious materials.
- Follows safety guidelines and policies for the Healthcare System.
