Fitness Instructor – Hamilton – Part Time

Overview

Responsible for ensuring that users and guests receive a warm welcome each time they visit or call the facility. In addition, is responsible for making sure that only authorized users and guests are allowed access to the facility.  Instructs Wellness Center patrons in the effective use of a wide variety of cardio and fitness equipment, monitors orderly operation of the fitness room, front desk and provides routine maintenance to fitness equipment. Ensures a proper flow of patients and necessary paperwork for scheduled appointments for outpatient services located inside Wellness Center. Answers directly to Chief Operating Officer. OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Class III.

Job Qualifications

    • Education: High school diploma or equivalent and some work experience with the public, operation of fitness equipment; or any combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Personal training course completion. Undergraduate degree in fitness, kinesiology, or a related field preferred.
    • Personal job-related skills: Knowledge of related exercise equipment. Excellent customer relation skills. Effective oral and written communication skills. Must have the ability to enforce operating policies and procedures in an effective and courteous manner. Must have the ability to establish an effective working relationship with co-workers and center patrons. Must also have the ability to repair non-working fitness equipment where applicable. Must have an enthusiastic attitude and provide members and clients with an entertaining, effective, and safe individual or group-exercise experience.
    • Licensure, registry or certification: Personal training certificate. Current certification as a group-exercise instructor or leader preferred. If instructing classes in yoga, pilates, spinning, or related specialty class, must have either a nationally recognized certification in that specialty or evidence of training in that specialty.
    • Prior Work Experience: Prior Work Experience: Minimum of one year experience or 200 hours as a group-exercise instructor preferred.
    • Technical Training: BLS Certified
    • Physical and Mental Requirements: Duties of the position require extended periods of walking and standing. Repeated bending, stooping and reaching. Pushing and pulling up to 300 pounds and carrying up to 50 pounds. Lifting up to 50 pounds and heavier when supporting patrons who may suddenly become weak or helpless.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures center rules, safety standards and sanitation requirements are followed.
  • Provides customer assistance as needed.
  • Provides instructions to patrons in the proper use of the facility equipment to include cardiovascular equipment and exercise pool.
  • Monitor’s fitness room to ensure smooth flow of patrons through the various exercise circuits.
  • Insures that routine daily maintenance tasks such as cleaning equipment and minor repairs on facility equipment are performed according to set policy and procedures.
  • Documents and reports all accidents and incidents in the fitness center.
  • Aid patrons in daily operation of equipment and answers questions concerning operation of equipment.
  • Document and report all equipment malfunctions and safety hazards.
  • ISchedules orientations for patrons.
  • Maintains a proper inventory of supplies and parts for the fitness center.
  • Assist in Emergency Action Plan implementation.
  • Greet each user and guest by name when they enter and depart the facility.
  • Check-in all users and guests when they arrive, including recording their attendance via the facility’s approved system.
  • Answer the phones and handle each call so that the caller’s needs are addressed.
  • Appropriately process all point-of-sale transactions and member payments, according to facility policy and procedures.
  • Oversee/maintain the cleanliness of the reception area of the facility.
  • Willingly step in and assist with other facility services responsibilities as may be required to ensure that the facility delivers upon its MFA (Medical Fitness Association) commitment to excellence.
  • Promotes the facility’s services to members, guests, and the community.

  • Maintains confidentiality while working with confidential matters on a daily basis.
  • Provides service and direction to patrons and guests while maintaining a positive atmosphere.
  • Interacts with fellow staff members on a continuous basis to ensure a smooth, safe and courteous environment.
  • Follows appropriate policies and procedures when handling potentially dangerous chemicals and or infectious materials.
  • Follows safety guidelines and policies for the Healthcare System.
  • All other duties as assigned.
